I put newspapers between my rows in my garden and cover then lightly with dirt- It keeps the weeds down and I don't have to use chemicals to control weeds. This fall, I just till my garden and the newspapers are compost for the garden.

Newspaper weeds away Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will g et through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.
To keep up with the weeds, pick a cool part of the day and devote 15-20 minutes a day to bending, burning and weeding. Not only will your body benefit from this activity, but your garden will flourish too!
Tame a wild barbecue - Toss a bit of salt on flames from food dripping in barbecue grills to reduce the flames & calm the smoke without cooling the coals (like water does). Kill poison ivy - Mix three pounds of salt with a gallon of soapy water (use a gentle dish soap) & apply to leaves and stems with a sprayer, avoiding any plant life that you want to keep. Deter patio weeds - If weeds or grass grow between bricks or blocks in your patio, sidewalk, or driveway, carefully spread salt between the cracks, then sprinkle with water or wait for rain to wet it down.
