Secrets of Success

Keeping Weeds Down

I put newspapers between my rows in my garden and cover then lightly with dirt- It keeps the weeds down and I don't have to use chemicals to control weeds. This fall, I just till my garden and the newspapers are compost for the garden.

  • I use newspaper as a way to get rid of the newspaper. We don't have any recycling in our rural area and I don't care to always burn them. - by ELLENIRENE
  • Excellent idea! I do the same and put mulch or compost over the newspapers. Sure fire way to get rid of those pesky weeds. - by LYNNES6

  • i use papers to start a new garden~ on the grass, where you want a new plot, put down papers and soak with water, next put your seed potatoes cut side down and cover with at least 6 inches to 1 foot of mulch hay. in a few months you might need to add somemore hay to support the plants. Fall harvest is a cinch! and LOOK! the worms tilled the earth for you and there isn't a weed or blade of grass to be seen! Next year plant lettuce or whatever you want.
