Remembering that its not all or nothing, instead of giving up favorite foods, learn to make lighter versions. In order to prevent that "mindless eating" that can occur when you buy larger packages of snack foods (such as crackers, almond, etc.), I keep snack size Ziploc baggies on hand. As soon as I bring the food home, I divide it out into "actual serving size" portions in the baggies, and store them in the cupboard. Then when I want a snack, I can just grab one of the pre-packaged baggies & not worry about the extra calories from over-estimating what I've eaten.
