Look for ways to add extra steps to your day. I live in NYC and therefore don't have a car, but I choose routes that are less than direct or walk 5 blocks to take the bus home rather than a half block to the subway. If you drive, park at the furthest (safe) spot from the shop you're going to. Even a few extra steps adds up fast!
