On those days when I am just not motivated, it helps to get active and crazy with the kids. We like to parade around our house singing songs, dancing, or doing something silly (one time we had an underwear parade with underwear on our heads :-). 15 minutes of this and I am perked up to excercise!
If you belong to a Y or a national fitness center, check to see if you can use your membership at the one near your destination or choose a hotel with a fitness center or pool. Otherwise, take lightweight stretchy-straps with you. Walk or run laps around a motel parking lot or march in place in your room. Shadow box, stretch, bend, lift water bottles, do windmills, pushups, arm circles, or twist at the waist. With bad knees, I can't do pushups, but I can push off a wall.... (more)
For a recent trip, I typed a list of all the exercises I could think of that I could do with a strap or no equipment, along with a space to check off each exercise every day of my trip. Every day I took a walk. After dinner, I stripped to my underwear in my room & did my routine 1-3 times.
Don't keep all your money in one place on vacation
When I was young, on family vacations my parents hid some money in the car, some in their luggage & each family member carried some. Once my father's wallet was stolen, but the thief got only a small portion of our vacation funds. I always remembered....(click on title for more info)
that lesson and do the same when traveling. We keep different credit cards, travelers checks, & cash in different locations: wallet, pocket, money belt, change purse pinned inside underwear, etc. I've never been robbed, but my vacation will not be ruined if I am. (Read comments for more info.)
