I realized that while cooking, I'm constantly nibbling. A bite of raw potato before it makes it to the pot, a bite of watermelon before it makes it to the bowl, and so on. If you are a nibbler while cooking, keep a pack of gum on top of the fridge. As soon as I realize food is in my mouth, I reach for the gum to make sure something that hasn't been measured doesn't make it there again.

When cooking and baking I reduce the amount of sugar in the recipe down at least a third. Some recipes can even be made with no sugar at all. I started doing this because I can not stand the taste of the artificial sweeteners.
