Oatmeal For Breakfast

Planning is a great part of the weight loss and healthy eating journey. For breakfast, I normally have steel oats or Quaker oats for breakfast. I cook a large batch on Sunday and place a service in containers to last 3-5 days. I cook the oats in almond milk, with an apple, raisins, walnuts, and flax meal. Cooking with milk adds flavor/nutrients. It heats nicely in the microwave if topped with a tsp of milk. This is an easy "grab and go" meal. No more excuses for missing breakfast.

  • This is my favorite breakfast! I don't use milk though. Sometimes I put peaches or apricots in my steel cut oats instead of apples but I always put flax seed in. - by RUTHEY01

  • Yes. I have oatmeal for breakfast a couple days a week. I use flax meal in smoothies - but thanks for the reminder to use it in my oatmeal! - by DRAGONMOOSE
  • That is a good idea, I like steel cut oats but do not have time in the morning to cook them so cooking several servings sounds good to me. thanks emoticon - by TWNOMWE
  • Did you know you can microwave normal quick or old fashioned oats? I put 1/2 cup of oats in a ziploc snack baggie with 1/2 tsp of apple pie spice or cinnamon, then (i personally) use 1 tsp brown sugar, I make a whole bunch and keep a couple in my desk drawer at work, add 1 cup of water and microwave for a minute or two (use a larger than you think you need bowl, it does grow as it cooks. Tasty and better for you than those packets of artificial crap you buy (you can add fruit or dried fruit if you like.) - by MRS_PALMER
  • I use 1 and 1/2 times the amount of liquid called for and use 1/2 tea and 1/2 skim milk. I add cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. I stir in fresh fruit just before serving. - by CAROLJEAN64
