i have been paying on a student loan, and had been deferred for medical reasons for quite awhile, recently i decided just to jump in and start paying it, and i have been keeping a money log of all the unnecessary spending, so far from 2/24, i have spent nearly 300 on eating out, renting movies, coffee, newspapers and other needless items so next month, i am paying the equivilent of what i spent needlessly on my loan!!!

good idea! I have student loans that have been on deferment too, guess I should save the money in a jar that I would spend going out. One thing is you still need to make sure you are allowing yourself some entertainment. Instead of having a television with cable or even a tv box, we use the internet....you can get all sorts of movies and programs from the internet...

Good for you, and goodbye student loan.

Be credit smart
Don't use a credit card unless you can pay it off at the end of the month completely!
What does it take to stick to and start a budget? You. That's it. Maybe your partner if you live with someone. Collect information of every bill you have. Then figure out what you make per month roughly. Figure what you need to live on for groceries, gas, etc.
MORE INFORMATION:
Once you complete this, save whatever you aren't using or apply it to outstanding long-term bills to pay them off.
Gather all your credit card bills. Pick out the smallest one and pay double, triple, half the amount until it's paid off. Meanwhile, pay at least the minimum on all your other accounts. Keep targeting them until finally all you're left with is that high card balance. At least you'll have more income to pay it off and you'll feel good about making progress on the others.88
