No matter what my friends say "Alcohol" is not good while you're trying to loose weight, I drink EVERY WEEKEND." I'm finally saying "no more alcohol" at least while I try to loose weight, I went from 165 to 236 lbs in two years and part of it was the alcohol!

Right there with you! My current rule for myself: "No alcohol during the week and on the weekends, it's either a glass of wine or dessert, not both!"

Gave it up (well, mostly) in January. Lost over 30 lbs since. Facts speak for themselves.

I agree with the the thought of giving it up but I really enjoy coming home on Friday night after work and having a vodka lemonade. So now instead of walking 3 times during the week I'm gonna walk a little more. If I want it - I have to find a way to deal with it.

ugh. I'm finding that I'm the unlucky type that will never just want a glass or two of wine, one day a week. A few days later, it's right back to one bottle+ per night.

Yes, I agree. I love wine - but I will need to start cutting back with trying to lose weight. I love the idea of having wine or dessert - not both - on the weekend. I will have to adopt that rule!

I'm having a hard time with this issue right now. Alcohol is too much a part of my social life. I don't drink during the week and doing great with healthy eating and exercise. Then comes the weekend. If we go out to dinner with friends, it is a lot of food, a lot of sitting & talking and a 4 or more drinks. It totally erases whatever I have accomplished during the week. I don't want to bow out of time with my husband and friends but I have to find a way to change my own behavior. Any advice?
CORGIGIRL24/23/2012 7:26:00 AM
I enjoy wine too much so that a glass just doesn't do it. I have to just stop it all right now; have some if we go out, which is only 2-3 times a month and not have it in the house. I have to choose health over wine!

NURSE4HEROES, I'm right there with you. I think I'm just going to have to cease drinking all together since I am clearly an all-or-nothing girl.

I totally agree. I gained 20 lbs with the help of Bud Light!

I think the drink or dessert method is a great idea! Plus, a lot of people like to have a drink to unwind at the end of the day and exercise is a good alternative for that.

hot tub meditation
A great way to relax? floating in the hot tub. Don't turn it up all the way, just warm enough to feel like a warm bath, get in to one of the "seat" areas, and lay back, close your eyes, let your feet float and relax. The built in seat keeps you from sinking and drowning, but you can still feel buoyed and "weightless". I find it a great way to totally relax.175

Do not drink alcohol before doing this, ever!
I was losing very slowly until I went alcohol free for 40 days. Weight came off much quicker then. Now I strive for balance. Drink alcohol only 2 days per week max. Amazing what this little change can do to speed up weight loss.

At 7 calories per gram, alcohol is a terrible choice for someone who wants to be healthy and/or lose weight. If I drink alcohol, I add a glass or 2 of water in between each alcoholic drink. I try to limit alcohol to weekends only. Its great to be able to have dessert instead and still hit my goal!
