Stay Away From The Coffee Shop!!!

This Sparked Me!

I LOVE coffee. Most people knew that if I had that "look" on my face in the morning, it meant I hadn't had my coffee. Well, come to find out, that coffee is roughly 700 calories!!!! I decided to stop drinking it because there is no way I can justify that, and I didn't want to feel like I needed it anymore. Now I feel great. I don't feel as sluggish once the sugar high wears off. I avoid the shop because it's too hard to say house coffee instead of White Chocolate Mocha. emoticon

MORE INFORMATION:
If you need something to replace the coffee (as I did), try tea. I know it might sound boring, but there are some really great teas out there. Try Teavana Youthberry and Orange Blossom.

If you need coffee and like it sweet but don't want 700 calories, try getting a regular coffee (or iced coffee) with a shot of sugar free flavored syrup and a splash of skim milk. Still super tasty at a fraction of the calories.

The latte/mocha that you were ordering is where that 700 count came from, black coffee itself is about 4 calories per 12 oz serving. One delicious alternative I use sometimes is a 12 oz americano (coffee shots and water, it often tastes more fresh at coffee shops than black coffee) with one pump of sugar free white chocolate (or any kind of sugar-free syrup) and a splash of non-fat milk. It's a great alternative and depending on how much milk you use (I use about 2 tbsp's), it won't even run you over 30 calories! :o)

You are so much stronger then me!! I stopped with the White Chocolate Mocha and went to a Tall Skinny Mocha only a 110 calories and it is my Friday treat!

Good for you! I also gave up coffee & lost six pounds the first two weeks. Had a pounding headache for first two to three days. But I'm over the hump & the pounds are coming off. I now use herbal decaf teas. Its fun to try the different flavors. emoticon

I have a French pastry shop right in my apartment building. I couldn't kick the habit of my morning latte and pastry ritual, so I finally broke down and bought my own grinder and espresso machine. (I hate tea). So now I can make my own (amazing!) coffee, pop in a Trader Joe's mini croissant, and keep my ritual, but for about 500 calories less. Plus, now that my espresso is better than many coffee shops, I've stopped the habit of getting coffee at work too!

I'm new to all of this but i honestly say that I can't give up my coffee. I have just recently started to make my own coffee with a low fat vanilla creamer and I don't add any sugar. At starbucks i also get the tall skinny mocha but good for you
SHIRL34205 1/19/2012 2:08:00 PM

I like my coffee to much to give it up but I did the math on just drinking coffe at home (black vs cream and sweet n low) and with the realization that I could lose 1 lb a week just eliminating the creamer.....that was motivation enough to make me enjoy that cup of black joe! Small changes add up to big loss! emoticon
