In the late afternoon, I tend to get the munchies and can easily eat the calories allotted for the day by 3:30pm. This has sabotaged more than a few days of healthy eating. I now keep several packs of gum at my desk, in my car, in my purse and at home and when I need to keep myself from thinking about food or mindless snacking, I just chew sugarless gum. It works!
Do as I say not as I do--since my hubby has been away I've stayed up later and later. Bad move: not only does it throw of your circadian rhythms, it puts a strain on your diet. If you DO stay up late, avoid giving in to the munchies and drink hot tea or drink water. 91
After you have determined that you are indeed hungry, MAKE SURE you have acceptable choices on hand - healthy nuts or seeds, fruits, veggies, hard pretzels, butter-less popcorn, etc. Then you will not be tempted to consume high calories fat-laden snacks!
