2 weeks on the road during 2011 Christmas, and I split meals with my wife, always using portion control!
I was never deprived of local delicacies...I went through N'awlins, BBQ Country, Christmas cookies, and Lincoln, NE with Valentino's Pizza and Runzas! Came home, weighed in at 168.2. My maintained weight is 170!

Baby carrots were "invented" buy a guy who was on a road trip and saw piles and piles of orange on the side of the road. When he got closer, he saw that they were carrots. He asked the farmer what was going on and the farmer said they were trash since they wouldn't sell at market. (See more info)
He made a deal with the farmer to haul them off for him (for a fee), cut off the bad parts, and made "baby carrots" out of them. It is actually a form of "recycling" since those piles of carrots were left to rot in the fields.
If staying in calorie range is the most difficult part of your journey, try setting a lower weight-loss rate so you will have a higher calorie range. Adjusting your goal from 2 lb/week to 1 lb/week makes is so you can eat approximately 500 more calories per day!
This higher range is more like maintenance, anyway!
