If you happen to stay in a hotel that provides shower caps, take the unused one home in the package. Use to cover leftovers in the refrigerator. The elastic holds the plastic in place and most of these will fit larger bowls.

Laundry detergent usually says "Fill cap to line 1," but it's impossible to see line 1, so we just fill up the cap, right? This uses 4x as much soap as you need! Take a permanent marker and mark line 1 inside the cap (you'll need a bright light to find it). Only fill to that line -- even for extra-large loads. Your clothes will get just as clean, and you'll save tons of money!
For powdered detergents, mark the measuring scoop the same way -- or use an old 1/4 cup measure as a scoop.
For front-loading washers, use even less soap (about 2 T)!
I've suspected for a long time I was using more than necessary. Just heard this tip and it works! Use the detergent's cap to measure. After you pour the soap into the washer, drop the cap in with the dirty clothes. Only caveat is to remember to retrieve the cap when you transfer the clothes to the dryer.
I make a small 8” x 9” basket for weekend guests composed of shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shower cap, bath gel & other things I get from the hotels when traveling. I add a disposal razor, a package of bath salts, maybe some perfume samples, a shower net puff,
a tiny travel hair spray, new wrapped toothbrush, toothpaste & anything else I can think of that a guest might like just in case they forgot something important. I leave this on the vanity along with a large supply of towels & washcloths & encourage them to use or take any of the items with them.
