I have found this method to work for saving money: get envelopes and label them with your bills you pay monthly (ie mortgage, light bill, water bill, etc.) and label one envelope Miscellaneous. Each month put the amount you owe on the bill plus $10 in the envelope. Pay the miscellaneous envelope $20. Once you pay all your bills, move the money from the other envelopes to the miscellaneous envelope and watch your money build up!

  • My husband pays pretty much all the bills online and I never really am involved with them. Our biggest problem with money is spending too much on food and then spending on little items here and there. This year I am starting a budget and writing down everything I spend and saving the recipes. For grocery shopping I am using cash that way when I budget myself 240 for two weeks I have to consider that when I want to run to the store to buy little things I forgot or just want. I'm hoping 2012 will be a year my bad finances turn around. - by LOSINGJESS
  • How does this work? My bills come with envelopes anyway and I pay by check or on-line.....I rarely use cash for anything. - by 1GROVES2

Just started the 'envelope' method yesterday. I am so glad I read your idea. I am adding a misc. envelope right now! - by FLOWERGIRLZMOM
