in the evenings i go online and do the tracker. i then calculate my evening snack based on whats left. instead of obsessing about food and wanting to eat i am reading motivational stories and blogs which inspire and motivate me to succeed

Within 6 months of starting to use SparkPeople, I was able to reach, and actually exceed my goals for losing weight. It came down to being committed to the very simple act of tracking calories in/calories out. I had exercised many times in the past trying to lose weight, but until I tracked everything I ate, I was not able to consistently lose weight.

In addition to tracking calories, fat, carbs, and protein... keep track of your sodium intake too. It's very easy to stay within your calorie range but majorly exceed your recommended daily sodium allowance. By monitoring this, I have doubled the amount of weight I have lost in half the time!
SparkPeople's Nutrition tracking doesn't automatically track sodium, but you can add this by clicking "Change my nutrition goals" on your nutrition page, and then choosing "Add another nutrient to track."
