When an item is "almost" empty (ie vanilla extract, windex, TP, coffee) I add it to the shopping list hanging on the fridge. Ask family members to do the same, instead of telling you "we need more..." I copy the list to a note on my phone, or take a pic. No emergency runs to the store for this or that by planning ahead...great lessons for kids...plus I get to look for sales...and we always have TP! We call it the "Fridge List".

Put a list of the vegetables you have on the fridge door
I used to find vegetables in the back of the fridge I had forgotten. Now when I buy them I put a list on the fridge door. The list inspires me to cook with them or choose them as snacks. I cross off the list as I use them up but don't go shopping for more until they are gone. Works for frozen vegetables too. 267
