Easy Interval Training

This Sparked Me!

I made a mix of music that helps with putting intervals in my walk. I pick music that I like with the pace in mind. I start out with a couple of songs that have a beat that matches my warm up speed, then up the pace a bit until I'm at my target walking speed. For the rest of the workout, I vary the pace from song to song and by matching my pace to the beat, instant intervals! When I get tired of the selection, I just make a different mix. Works for walking, running biking etc. Enjoy!

This would not work for me. I never listen to recorded music because I have Audio Repetition Avoidance Disorder ---it's not a recognized disease, but I suffer from it anyway. If I listen to any music more than about twice a year, I get Candyman Syndrome ----I can't get the music out of my head and it actually makes me nauseous. What I do instead, is plot out several walking patterns. Then, I walk at a warm-up pace (about 5 min.) until point A, speed it up until point B, then crank it up until point C, then I slow down to point D ---and so on. Depending on where I walk, I change paces at the end of a block or at the next telephone pole, or each time I come to a stop sign. If I'm in an unfamiliar place, I count my paces or change up once a minute.

I never looked at it that way before but you're right. I always begin with a couple of soothing pieces. I appreciate an upbeat song when I walk uphill and before I know it I'm at the top. It's amazing how music really does help make one pick the pace. Sometimes the music just takes over. emoticon emoticon emoticon
