My calorie range is 1200-1550. To make sure I stay within 1500 calories I try everyday to average 1400 calories, that way if I have made a mistake with measurement or portioning or anything else hopefully that 100 calories will cover it.

If I keep within my calorie count, I give myself a small reward after posting all my food for the day. I have 30 sugar-free chocolate covered peanuts in a little box I made in my first pottery class (1 for each day of the month). If I've stayed within my calorie range I reward myself with a single peanut. The feeling that I've earned it seems to make it taste wonderful AND I'm proud to watch the pile go down.
If your a night owl like me, who stays up for 6+ hours after dinner, plan a late night snack. By planning ahead you can fight late night binging, make it healthy, and stay within your calorie range. I usually go with a half serving of wheat crackers and an apple or plum.
Just starting? GREAT! Focus on keeping track of everything you eat...EVEN if it is over your daily calorie intake. The more you keep track the quicker you will be motivated to stay within your calorie range. Baby steps.
