Non-exercise physical activity (NEPA) like walking or doing dishes or doing houswork helps - potentially a lot more than just calories burned. It extends your lifespan and improves your cholesterol numbers.

2007 study in the Journal of Epidemiology reported that non-exercising women that engaged in 10 or more metabolic equivalent (MET)-hours/day of nonexercise activity were at 2550% reduced risk of mortality relative to less active women (09.9 MET-hours/day).
