When I am on the road at lunch time and haven't thought to pack a lunch (Duh!) I don't look for golden arches, but a grocery store. Many groceries have a salad bar where I can make a spinach salad with tuna or grilled chicken. Fruit makes a great dessert. I am not tempted by soda or fries, and get several servings of fruits and veggies in my noon time meal, often for less money than a fast food meal.
If they don't have a salad bar there are many pre-packaged salads, and a deli to add some chicken breast or tuna from packages instead of cans.

Don't keep ice cream in your refridgerator. If you have an urge for ice cream drive to the nearest McDonald's with a drive-through. If there is a car or more in line drive by.
By keeping ice cream out of your fridge you don't have that temptation handy. By thinking about driving to McDs just for an ice cream you have time to let the craving pass. If you do drive to McDs there will inevitably be a car in the line so you can't get the ice cream.
Sometimes, on hot days I'll be driving home from work (usually spring time in Phoenix) and I'll think that an ice cream sounds like it might hit the spot. I see the line at McDs and continue to drive home.
I don't keep ice cream in my fridge. This has saved me countless calories!
It's pretty simple - don't buy foods that encourage you to binge. And don't carry money with you if you can't trust yourself to drive by McDs or Starbucks without stopping. If it's not available you can't overdo it!
