Instead Of Mcds...

When I am on the road at lunch time and haven't thought to pack a lunch (Duh!) I don't look for golden arches, but a grocery store. Many groceries have a salad bar where I can make a spinach salad with tuna or grilled chicken. Fruit makes a great dessert. I am not tempted by soda or fries, and get several servings of fruits and veggies in my noon time meal, often for less money than a fast food meal.

MORE INFORMATION:
If they don't have a salad bar there are many pre-packaged salads, and a deli to add some chicken breast or tuna from packages instead of cans.

My husband and I take this one step further. When we are on a car trip we stop at the local groceries to pick up our lunch and snacks then we have a picnic. This is less expensive than restaurants and gives us more options. You don't need to worry about refrigeration and if you are on a time schedule you aren't waiting to be served.

I do this too, I get cravings for a good big salad and my local grocery store has a killer salad bar with ALOT to choose from. I love salad bars with alot of variety.

I just returned from a trip to Yukon/Alaska with my sister and we did this mainly because I took my dog along and he needed the break! We'd walk the dog then have a picnic from the cooler we had brought. Much more fun than sitting in a restaurant and the dog thought so too! :-)

My Husband and I will be staying overnight for 2 nights next month. We are talking about bring a cooler with fruit and vegetables for lunch maybe a boiled egg and cereal with a carton of milk to put in the refrigerator when we get to the hotel for breakfast. It will be a lot cheaper than eating 3 meals out at the buffett. Also bring some Slim-fast Shake. I think that will help with the calorie count and it is satisfying. We ared both trying to loose weight and save money at the same time.

What a great idea. I have done this on a small scale when out of town for my daughter's softball tournaments when I have a cooler with me or a refrigerator in our hotel room but it makes much more sense to do this more often. I find myself waiting until I get home to eat when running errands but sometimes I can get super hungry and don't make good choices because I need to eat quicker.
