While my self control seems to go out of the window and I feel I can't resist eating some candy, I have some fruit instead. It's hearty, satisfying, low in calories and fat, rich in fiber and usually my candy cravings go away after consuming fruit.
My biggest struggle in cutting down my overall calorie intake was overcoming a nightly struggle with candy cravings.
