I wanted to have one place where I could go to see pre and post blood sugar readings and also to be able to track my Insulin usage for that day. I created four new "meals", naming them Breakfast Insulin, Lunch Insulin, Dinner Insulin and Lantus. Having the Insulin tracking on my meals also gives me an idea of what foods cause problems for me. I learned that cheese significantly slowed the digestion of carbs, so now I take half of my computed Insulin just after a meal & the rest 2 hours later
(for meals like Mexican food, lasagna or pizza. These are treats but the calories and fat are calculated to stay below my max allowable calories).

Checking your blood glucose and recording the results can help tell you how well your insulin is working. Your doctor needs to look at your blood glucose results and your record of insulin doses. Ask about when your insulin starts to work, when it works hardest and how long it lasts. Look for patterns of high and low blood glucose then make adjustments so that you are within the target range most of the time.
Keeping a record of your insulin use and blood glucose results can help you and your doctor understand how to better adjust your insulin.
I'm an Insulin dependent diabetic, & while insulin use dropped my A1c into the 7's, I wanted to be closer to normal. My Endocrinologist worked with me to find how many grams of carbohydrates would need one unit of insulin. Since then I have calculated the exact amount of insulin needed to keep me in the high 70's to low 80's by the time of the next meal. I calculate immediately after a meal & take my insulin After the meal. For the past year, my A1c average has been 5.9. A bonus to this tight
control is my LDL, VLDL & triglycerides have dropped into a below average range & my HDL has risen from 38 to the high 50's. If you choose to work with your Endo, you have to make absolutely sure that your meals are spaced equally or you can have hypoglycemic episodes that pose serious health risks.
