I always pack my exercise clothes and take them to work with me in the mornings. I change before I leave and head straight to the walking path. If I go home to change and walk there is just too many distractions and I would not get out the door.
I started collecting the day's change in a jar and saved far more than what I've tried saving in my savings account. How it works: Whenever I make cash purchases and have any change left, I put the change in a small coin purse I always carry in my purse. I always pay with bills. I never use change to pay purchases. At the end of the day, whatever change I have left over I put it in a jar. There are days when I put up to $5.00 worth of change in the jar and that motivates me to save.
It didn't seem to make much sense when I first started saving this way and I was tempted to empty the jar occasionally, but one day I took my mom to her bank where they have a free coin counter for bank members and she walked out with $367.00 in cash just by cashing in her leftover coins.
