Most restaurants are really cold, which always makes me want to order something hearty and comforting. If I get a hot water with lemon (hot tea would work, too) and warm up a little before I order my meal, I'm much more likely to order something that's actually good for me.

We sometimes eat out and finally realized that some restaurants are suggesting more for tipping, i.e. say 15%. Therefore we decided to only patronize establishments that we don't have to leave a tip and put that money back in our pockets. It has become pretty easy to locate great places that fit our needs.
If you don't feel like cooking but don't want the big bill of a restaurant or fast food, order to-go. Not paying for drinks saves you a lot of money. Some people tip the to-go person at least a dollar or two, but it's still often much less than you'd end up tipping a server for dining in house.
