For fresher smelling carpets (and vacuum cleaner):
In a bowl, add up to 10 drops of essential oil to 1 C of baking soda (I like to combine grapefruit and tangerine oils.) Mix really well to distribute the oil throughout the baking soda. Sprinkle on carpets and leave for at least 15 min. Vacuum thoroughly.

    Good idea, but 1 caveat. Be careful of this suggestion if you have pets. Especially if they have respiratory issues.

Cats are quite sensitive to essential oils and some can injure their kidneys.
