I made a list of the reasons why I want to lose weight and put them on 3x5 notecards. I read them every morning, at mealtimes, when I feel the urge to eat something destructful or when I need a pick me up. I keep the cards on my kitchen counter so they are always there. Here are the 1st few reasons listed on my cards: Feel better about myself, look/feel better in clothes, set good example for my kids, be healthy, avoid diabetes/heart disease, be proud of me, more energy, play soccer again.
Writing down your goals helps you realize why you are on this weight loss journey in the first place. In moments of weakness, it really does help to read the list before you put any food in your mouth. You realize that your goals will make you feel better than any piece of food can.

I have a little wooden heart, purchased at a local craft store, on which I write my weight loss goal for the week. I keep it in my pocket, so that whenever I am tempted or just need a reminder, I can either pull it out or just touch it in my pocket and I remember to stay focused on my short term goal for the week. Once I make it to that weight goal, I write the next goal weight I want to hit on my heart.
This helps to keep me focused and determined to make the short jumps along my long journey. It also reminds me to love myself during this journey.
I set a goal to save $1 a day. I place this dollar in an envelope with my weight loss goals on it, When I put a dollar in it i write the date on the back, When I reach a weight loss goal I use that money to buy my treat.
Having my goals there keeps me motivated and writing the date keeps me on track, I only put $1 in a day. I if I miss a day I lose that money. So I try really hard to remember everyday.
