If you want to shake up your walks, after a mile or two, turn around and walk backwards. Make sure you're on level ground and no breaks in pavement or obstacles before you turn. I find that I use different muscles and breaks up the walk.

Also, I take a change of socks on really long walks. It refreshes my feet to have clean socks half way through the day.

    I discovered the hard way how much HILLS can affect your walks, too. Walked DOWN a mountain (rode up) ,,,an easy walk, but I was SO sore for days!

    also, side stepping! works the inner thighs. I used to do this on the treadmill too. Got some funny looks!
