One of my secrets for better nutrition is to eat a better breakfast. Steel cut oatmeal is terrific and filling, especially when you add a banana or chopped up apple, and a yogurt or 1T maple syrup and 1/2 cup milk. You can make steel cut oatmeal ahead of time (1 c. oats to 3 cups water) and store in sealed container in fridge. Mush it up with a little water and microwave it 1.5 minutes til hot and then add the toppings you like.

It will last about a week in the fridge, and is best the first three days. If it smells sour, it's gone by. You will definitely know. So it's possibly to make 1-2 batches once a week to last all week for one person.

For more nutrition add pumpkin, or applesauce, dried cranberries or raisins...pumpkin pie spices or cinnamon. A tablespoon of peanut butter and a tablespoon of dark chocolate chips make it Yummo. Add a package of diet Hot Cocoa Mix. Just add in the extra calories
I eat oatmeal for breakfast a lot. When I went to a Nutritionist, she told me to add in a serving of peanut butter. A great way to get protein for that meal!
You're never too old to start improving your health. Start with small changes, you will feel better. Go for a walk with your spouse (or dog). Eat oatmeal for breakfast. When you are comfortable with the change then add another. Life is too short and precious not to make the most of it.
