I tell myself, "You know, once you swallow that bite of food it is gone forever!" (Because once I swallow that bite of food, I can't savor the taste anymore.)
I try to chew each bite with the goal of 40 times in mind. This works good with some foods, and goes quickly with others. It helps with my digestion, and fills me during that first 20 minutes so I do not overeat.

I don't taste until I track! I put this rule in place for myself because skipping once is a slippery slope. And by making sure my food is logged before I indulge, I can see how much my choice will "cost" me and make a last minute change if necessary!
I've ditched food at the last minute that should have never made it to my plate because I tracked it first :)
I use this idea all the "time"![pun intended!]. I have more than one watch and when I'm not wearing the others, I pull "the pin" mechanism on the side to stop the time [as I am not wearing the watch, I don't wish to run the batteries down]. Then ,if I switch watches for the next day, I'll pull the pin on the watch I WAS wearing. And I remember right BEFORE putting the watch on to reset it to the proper time. This may seem like an inconvenient thing to do,but I've found it saves the batteries..
...and makes them last longer! I also turn "off" my watch at night!
