Tare Your Utensil

If you are weighing foods and will be using the utensil you're scooping with, tare out the weight of both the container and the utensil before weighing the food.

This will make it easier to account for any food sticking to your utensil - it's easier than scraping off the utensil to ensure you aren't going over weight!

A really easy way to do this is to put the container of food (say yogurt or cottage cheese) on the scale and tare it. Scoop out the food from that container into your dish. When the scale says -100 (that's a minus sign) grams, then you have scooped out 100 grams, including what is on the spoon.
