If you aren't very social (or are embarassed), check out the gym at different times during the week. Husband and I avoided the gym on weekend nights because we felt we needed a break. Little did we realize: everyone else apparently does too. No one's there! All machines are open and more intimate.
It's now our favorite time to go in the week!

WAY TOO MUCH WAITING. Now, I run to the gym starting around 4:30 AM. I can get in 3-6 miles and still do a strength workout!
Our gym opens at 5 AM. My wife and I used to ride together, but I am a morning person and would WAIT around for her to get ready. Her classes start at 5:15 and I had to leave at 6 in order to shower and catch the bus to work. WAY TOO MUCH WAITING. Now, I run to the gym starting around 4:30 AM.
Having a bag ready to go to the gym makes the trip fast and easy. Stuff it with everything you might use- empty water bottle, gym sneakers, clean socks, workout clothes... stuff to shower with.... head phones/iPod.... Just seeing the bag on the floor inthe laundry room reminds me to get to the gym
I went out and purchased travel sized shampoos, soaps, some makeup.... for showering at the gym. I packed my gym clothes and swith them out after each trip... towel and swim suit... I have two pairs of sneakers- one for outside and one for the gym (gym shoes are in the bag)... cuts a lot of time
