You've heard the old saying- "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Well I've tackled some of my bad habits that way. I used to drink a lot of coffee. I decided about a year and a half ago to quit. My secret: Tell someone who cares about you and will help you through it.
Accountability is the key. Ive got the victory over more than one bad habit that way.

I pick one bad habit to break every week, I fast that bad habit and add on to it the next week. I am fasting soda this week, next week may be ice cream. Continue on until your habit is broken. You lose weight and change your eating habits at the same time. It takes 21 days to break a habit.
I found the Og Mandino website and it offers so much motivation through words! It's amazing. A thought I am reading today: As a child we are slave to impulses (just do what feels good). As an adult, those very impulses (if not brought into check) have become habit and as adults we are slave to our habits. Years of accumulated habits and deeds mark out the path of our future. Our actions are ruled by appetitie, passion, prejudice, greed, love, fear, environment, and habit.
The worst of these is habit. Bad habits are destroyed by replacing with good habits. So the thought for today? Let me toil the soil of my life, turning under the bad habits and preparing new furrows for good seed to be planted. I will sow the seeds of success deep within so new life may sprout.
