To stay on track at restaurants, I order a "Virgin Mary" with all the veggie fixins. I get a nice veggie juice or tomato juice and some celery to munch on while others are having high calorie drinks or appetizers. If one doesn't do the trick, I'll order another and usually my appetite is nearly nill by the time my meal comes. This has saved me eating out calories many-a-time.
If you're on a reduced sodium diet, this might not be a good option for you. I've also tried hot water with lemon squeezed into it. Doesn't have great pizazz but it certainly gives me some mouth zing to focus on and it puts a warm feeling in my tummy which helps.
Hot water is an appetite suppressant and my body just craves it. The other day, my daughter asked why I drank hot water, and I said, "I loved it", so she started drinking warm/hot water at 8 years old. Yesterday she told me that hot water was the BOMB and that she loved it! 334 Try it..you may love it and get the added benefit of suppressing your appetite.
I've been drinking Green Tea instead of coffee in the morning to save the calories from the creamer, and I've noticed that the green tea suppresses my appetite and helps to keep me full until lunch. Now, I'm drinking a cup every morning after breakfast.
