My Silly Visual

This Sparked Me!

When I think about the weight I have lost, I think of it as the 3 pound cans of Crisco. I have lost over 60 pounds which would be like carrying 20 cans of Crisco. Can you imagine carrying 20 cans of Crisco everywhere you go. I have about 23 cans to go (69 pounds).

I've been calculating my weight loss in Stones, an English weight measuring system. Each Stone weighs 14 pounds.
Then I went to the Home Depot and bought 7-pound bricks and stacked them on my patio. Every time I lose Stone, I put two bricks in a stack next to the front door. It really puts things in perspective. One brick alone is quite heavy!

This was so funny to me! Just last night I picked up my hand weights to put them away and as I was holding them I realized they weighed almost the same amount as I have lost. AND I thought they were so HEAVY! Can't believe I had been packing 30+ pounds around and still functioning. Great reminder that will go a long way for motivation! Thanks!

Think about a 20 pound bag of cat litter for you cat people when you reach that point. When I first lost 20 pounds, I was told that. I tried this and thought did I really lose this time. I have been carrying this around. I am glad it is gone.

I always think of 1 pound bricks of butter when I think about extra weight lost!

I love this! Cans of Crisco, Bags of Sugar or Flour - any of these create a mental image that really brings it home! emoticon

I will remember that as I lose the last 10 lbs.

I am definitely a visual person and this totally helps me. I have about 100 pounds to lose and sometimes its hard for me to pick up my 40 pound daughter. I am carrying more than 2 times that on my body now. WOW!!!! Thank you so much for helping me to SEE that!!! What a motivator!!!

I had a friend who's visual was a lot like yours, she used blocks of butter as her visual, so even if she lost only a quarter pound in the week, she was proud to be down by a block of butter.

I love it!!! Think I'll start adding pics of Crisco and butter (and other fattening foods) to a poster as a reminder of how far I've come. Thanks for the idea!!!!

I was in Wal-Mart, in the fitness section. My 5 year old found a 15 pound kettle bell weight that she promptly dropped on the floor. I reached down and picked it up. Man it was heavy! Then I started thinking that that was how much weight I had already lost and if that kettle bell felt that heavy, think about how it must have felt on my poor knees! I think visualization is a great technique for losing weight!

BFLACK33 6/17/2010 10:57:00 AM

I always think of the 1 lb. bricks of butter too. I've melted 6 of em off my belly and butt! I like to think of them melting while I'm working out too. Did you know that body fat literally does melt at 112 degrees? Wonder how many fat people live in Pheonix. emoticon
KARENTOO2 5/15/2010 3:12:00 PM

This isn't a silly visual at all! I think it's great! I love the idea of looking forward to living each day without carrying around the big 44-lb bag of litter that I just bought at Costco and struggled to get into the trunk of my car and then from trunk to house. What a boost in energy that will produce!
WHISHASTAR 4/26/2010 9:22:00 PM

I realized one day that I had lost as much as both of my cats put together!
ELIZABETH525 4/26/2010 12:35:00 PM

Yeah I do the 5lb bags of sugar or 8lb gallons of milk! So far I have lost 1 bag of sugar!
EODWIFE99 4/16/2010 10:17:00 AM

That is a Fabo idea! Keep up the great work!
WALL-E2 4/8/2010 9:35:00 AM

Nothing silly about that. Ever see Dr. Oz and what our unhealthy internal organs look like?
KLB037 4/4/2010 11:30:00 AM

I was comparing to 5 pound bags if sugar, but yours is great!!
ELSEEBEE 4/3/2010 4:29:00 PM

Great analogy! I'm thinking about that from now on.
