Don't want to spend a lot of time on oven cleaning? Place about 1 cup of cloudy ammonia in a aluminum pie pan and place it in the oven overnight. In the morning, simply remove the pan and wipe the oven clean with a damp sponge. If you do this often ( about once a month ) you won't have to spend money on harmful chemicals.

Will give it a try. I have lined the bottom of the oven before with foil to catch spills and it worked great. But. I ran out of foil and forgot to line the next time I baked something so there's a mess in there... - by SHEILA-45
  • I never clean my oven, except to remove crumbs. For foods that are likely to spill, I use recycled foil on a lower shelf. I figure my oven sterilizes itself every time I bake. Nobody looks in there but me anyway. I gave up on oven cleaners a lifetime ago. I agree: that stuff is poison! - by CHARLOTTE1947
  • Anna I tried that years ago, it didn't work for me. Perhaps I didn't leave it there overnight. Will have to give it another go
