For every pound I lost, I put $5 in an envelope in a bureau drawer. If I gained a pound, out came the $5. I never "borrowed" from it. I only put in money when a whole pound was lost. When I reached goal I had enough to treat myself and my new body to a day at a spa!

Way to go! Likewise, if you gain a pound, you should deduct from your spa fund and donate to a charity.

I not only like this idea, I love it, time to buy myself a piggy bank with the first $5
ROBINSU6510/16/2010 12:57:00 PM
Such a simple Idea! I'm going to start this with my next weigh in. 50 pounds would give me $250. Now that is a nice carrot to dangle.
BUSYBEE20117/26/2011 5:02:00 AM
This is a great idea and can be altered depending upon one's circumstances or needs. I make mini goals for myself along the way. For example, I'll treat myself to a manicure or pedicure for 5 pounds lost, buy a new workout outfit for 10 pounds, or purchase a new pair of earrings for 15 pounds lost. I like the ideas others gave about rewarding themselves for meeting their fitness or nutritional goals too. That is a wonderful way to recognize the hard work and effort you are putting forth toward your health and fitness, regardless of what the scale says. Keep up the good work everyone!

Love it! This also helps remind us that We Are Worth the effort!

I am 76 with an invalid spouse and keeping motivated is a challenge for me. Money talks, so now that I am "listening" maybe it will help. I only have about 15 pounds to lose so guess $20 a pound is more like it!
SECRET_SWITCH11/16/2010 9:41:00 PM
sounds awesome I may have to try it! I don't know if I can afford $5, we shall see! Thanks for sharing!
HERKYLOSER11/16/2010 11:13:00 AM
Great idea! So many times when we think of rewarding ourselves we think of food!! This is a great way to reward ourselves - - I'm thinking new wardrobe down the road! Thanks for sharing.
TES506111/16/2010 9:48:00 AM
I did something similar to this. For each week that I made my goal, I would put $10 in a piggy bank. I figured out that by the time I reach my goal, I would have saved up $300 for a new wardrobe/shopping spree since I would need it!
IDJ19732/6/2013 12:48:00 PM

BREADTIN12/9/2012 4:08:00 AM
This is such a great idea! I've been following this for a few weeks, putting $10 per pound in a jar, and watching the amount grow.
I'll use the cash to buy some lovely new clothes when I get to my goal weight.
ASCIESZKA6/21/2012 6:07:00 AM

I'm new to SP and came across your great idea to pay the piggy $5.00 for every pound loss. Seeing that I have over 130 pounds to lose will reward me to a fun shopping spree!!!! Love it!!!
LYNETTEMOM5/25/2011 1:26:00 PM

I just started this week, and I think is definitely something I'm going to do, although when I reach my goal, I don't think a day at the spa is what I'm going to do...maybe a trip to the casino...or some new clothes.
