Take a gallon milk jug (make sure it's clean) cut a large hole in the flat side that's big enough for a bird to perch on. Hang the jug with twine by poking a hole in the cap of the jug and tying a knot (toward the inside) to hold it. Fill the bottom with about an inch of bird food! You can even let the kids help decorate it!

To keep those pesky yet playful squirrels out of your bird feeders add some cajun or red ground pepper to your bird seed and stir it in. The birds aren't affected by it at all. One sniff of it and the squirrels turn tail and won't touch your seed again! It works better than any of those silly domes or deterrent. And is a LOT cheaper!219
Cut off (about 1/3 of the way down) a 2 liter Coke bottle. It makes a great funnel for putting bird seed in the feeder or other funnel uses. Costs no money and works great.
I have a daily flip calendar on my desk. At the end of the year when I replace the old pages with the new, I clip the old ones together and use them as a note pad on my desk for miscellaneous notes, calls, numbers, whatever. It saves me from using new note pads!
