Prunes Help Prevent Osteoporosis?

Members Were Sparked
This Sparked Me!

Not just a constipation cure, but the vitamin K, copper and boron in prunes also help prevent osteoporosis! In one study, women who ate about two handfuls daily saw a 57% turnaround in age-related bone loss within three months! My own response to this is just pondering - TWO HANDFULS!!!! DAILY???(smiling) Plan to spend a lot of time in the restroom. But I guess it's worth it for stronger bones.

May 9 issue of Woman's Day magazine.

Neat to know. I love prunes! Guess I'll add them into the menu on a regular basis. Thanks.

I love prunes but it takes a while to know your limit. The tracker measures each one when you put them in . That makes tracking including the sugar much easier. They can also replace oil if they are pureed. Just puree after you count and measure them. Pat in Maine. emoticon

Mmm.. I love prunes, but they have lots of sugar (any dried fruit does) so you need to be careful because the calories can add up!

I love dried prunes I could eat the any time and tinned ones with custard! Yum! Have a few in the mornings for breakfast quite often, but not every day! 2 handfuls each day is a bit high in calories and sugar!!!

I had no idea. May have to learn to like prunes as I have been diagnosed with osteopenia.

So healthy bones and a healthy colon? I guess I need to pick up some prunes this weekend!
