I always jump into things with two feet. But going too fast has only brought me injuries. I'm learning to set more long term goals and realizing that 2 or 3 months of exercise after years of inactivity do not make me an athlete ..yet.

    LOL! I often find myself reminding emoticon myself to set realistic goals! I have been working harder toward them! Thank you for the laugh! I like to think after two weeks I am superwoman... NOPE!

    Nice posting. I really need to get back into routine. I was doing great but then I got sick and kind of fell off the wagon. I still exercise every day its not accounting for what I am eating and when emoticon

    Something I was told by a fitness trainer was set a realistic six month goal then break it down to a three month goal, month goal and then weekly. That's for fitness. For food, set a calorie limit but dont kick yourself if you go over. The more we punish ourselves the less likely we are to continue with a healthier life.

    It definitely takes time to become active after being sedentary for so long but just a little bit every day is a start!

    I learned through many "failures" that sometimes I'm not ready for a goal or it is the wrong goal for me altogether. Just because it is everyone else's goal and SEEMS obvious does not mean it is. My first goals I learned to have was to be consistent at something. It was baby steps all the way.

    ...Even taking it "slower" and being mindful of balance and avoiding injury, I suggest that you can still consider yourself an athlete! Or...athletic. Because the simple act of acknowledging that "status"- at least for me, conjures up a view of myself as the way I WANT to be more- strong, balanced, healthy...doesn't equate to "perfect" or "unrealistic" but we can all harness the "athlete" within us even if we've been couch potatoes, high school sports stars, or (again like me) somewhere in the middle! emoticon

    I took up running after a number of years of inactivity except for walking. It is taking me some time to be anything other than a turtle, but I am convinced that, if we work consistently and sensibility, we can get ourselves back into shape.

    So true. I started a diet and jumped into exercise only to overdo it and hurt my knee. I have waited 3 months for the knee to heal and will go much slower this time.
