Don't deprive yourself of anything, just learn to balance treats out by cutting back on something else.

MORE INFORMATION:
A lot of people completely cut out chocolate, cheese, butter, cream, etc, etc, and think they are doing the right thing. But all this achieves is to make themselves feel deprived. For example, a small scrape of butter is far better (and tastier) than any amount of made in a lab substitute butter!

Yes. This is my motto, too. I used to do things in extremes--when buying cookies, for example, I'd eat the whole bag of Pepperidge Farm Geneva's etc. but now I've trained myself to have just one of a treat.
I think this is also a function of getting older: I gain weight more easily on seemingly less food than I used to eat!

I agree. I try not to cut anything out of my life that I can't live with in the long run or I feel deprived and cranky instead of pampered and inspired like I am choosing to take care of me by eating that chocolate a little bit at a time! Thanks for the post.
