Because I want instant weight loss, I weigh in first with all my clothes and coat on. Then I put down my purse. HA! 5 pound weight loss. Then off goes my coat. There goes some more!! Finally, there go the shoes (and if I'm wearing heavier clothing they go to). I get my instant gratification and feel good with my little psych out.

We wait til Christmas for Santa. We can wait until we have spare calories for that slice of cake too! Sadly, we've become an instant /disposable society, but we don't have to have instant gratification as dieters.
And I'm living proof of this. As I've got control of my eating, I've got control of my lifestyle. The house is tidier, the debt is decreasing, and it is just an empowered feeling all the way around. So go ahead, and WAIT. It will do you good in so many ways.
I heard an author who writes about life changes say that we have two brains: the smart one and the bunny brain. The smart one can plan, but the bunny just wants instant gratification. She says it helps to retrain our brains to focus on the long term gratifications, to essentially trade up. So when I don't want to go to the gym, that is when I need to go the most because my bunny brain is in control. The workout somehow staves off bunny brain too.
It is a split second in time that can change your life --for good or for bad. In every second you have a chance to do what is right for you (what is going to bring you health and happiness long term) or do what is giving you instant gratification (but regret later). I try to remember it is about this second and stay positive in my thoughts and actions. I try to choose what will bring me lasting health or happiness. Sick of regrets. 189
