Every day pick one thing to declutter, be it a drawer, a counter or your desk. Get a paper shedder and shred old bills or papers you no longer need, toss out anything you have not used in a year and give away any old clothes you no longer wear (like your old fat clothes), In no time at all your house will be less cluttered and look great!
If you see it all at one time it is overwhelming but to do one thing a day is less stressful and easy. After all there are 365 days in a year, so that is 365 things you decluttered in one year!

Examples of some of my goals: Do one thing per week to work towards the aquisition of our family cabin. Do one thing per week to improve my finances. Declutter one area of my home per week. The results are amazing!
I try to do at least one thing every day. It may be something small I have been trying to get done or something big. Sometimes a day will overwhelm if you look at all you have to do. you so I look at just doing one thing on my to do list. It allows me to start my day with a good frame of mind.
When you have alot of items to accomplish writing them down helps. Just don't let your list control you. I find if I write them down it get out of my head and makes it tangible knowing I will eventually get it done.
I found a wonderful website called www.freecycle.org (note, it's NOT freecycle.com!) which has helped me declutter my house. When I have clothes my kids have outgrown or items I no longer want, I just post a message to my local chapter. Within a day or two, there is usually someone who needs the item who takes it for free. It's a win-win situation that (to me) is easier than trying to store unwanted items for a garage sale.
