Walk To The Grocery Store

This Sparked Me!

I live alone, so I only have to buy food for one. Walking to and from the grocery store is exercise, and knowing I'll have to carry my week's food back with me helps me fight the urge to buy extra sugary treats!

Me, too! It also helps control my budget. I only take the cash that I can afford for the day - no impulse buys for me!

Yep! I sometimes walk, but since I don't own a car & have two side baskets & one front basket for more things, I sometimes bike on my cruiser bike (no speeds). Definitely get my exercise! emoticon

I'm between two stores, the walk wouldn't be too bad but carrying the bags back might be a challenge. hmmmm stop and go, stop and go

I try this sometimes when I don't need perishables

    I do this too!
LYNETTEMOM 9/5/2012 6:50:00 PM

I try to do this as well. It is a good walk and it keeps me from being wasteful/buying more than I can eat in a short time.

I used to do this before I moved. Now it is too far to walk. But when I go to the store I park further out in the parking lot to get in extra steps.

Wish I lived close enough to walk!

Great Idea - we just about never get the car out in the summer - everything is within 5 or 6 miles away so we walk or cycle, depending on how much time we have. Groceries go on our bicycles, we cycle to the bank, to pay bills and to social events. We get good and healthy and tanned and our evening walks help to stop that evening snacking urge. Great job!

I try to walk weekly to the local green grocers, which is a little over a mile round trip. I also walk to the local grocery or dollar store when I need something on the weekends. Great way to not only get a little more exercise but save money too since I have to carry back my purchases! emoticon

    good idea

I should do this more often. The supermarket is so close and yet I drive to it all the time. I'm going to make more of an effort to walk to it in the future.

This is a great idea if you live within walking distance of the store. I live 18 miles from my nearest store. Rural living can be a challenge, but at least I have nice trails to walk on. emoticon

When the weather is good I walk to the store too! I carry my purchases in a backpack and make several trips a week. The walk back is always the more intense workout. emoticon
