I used to drink a lot of diet pepsi thinking it was not bad for weightloss at all since there's no sugar, no sodium, etc in it. I had gotten serious about dieting and exercising, yet I was not seeing the results I wanted. I quit drinking diet soda completely and the weight immediately fell off. I started drinking it again and the weight stopped coming off again! As soon as I gave it up for good, I had no problem.
MORE INFORMATION:
Of course it's better than sugary soda but my trainer buddy said in alot of people, their body reacts to fake sugar just like regular sugar so you hold on to the weight, plus carbonation leads to lots of bloat!

I was a big diet pop fan. I heard so many bad things about it in the news (studies that show higher rates of osteoporosis, and heart attacks and strokes) that I have been trying to give it up. It is tough, but I am not doing too badly. I have bought some stevia-sweetened (zero calorie, natural sweetner)cans of pop for when I just have to have some fizz (fizzy water just isn't the same). I try to avoid aspartame and dark colas, so orange flavored "Zevia" or "Krisda" does the trick for me. At least until I hear something really bad about stevia.

Diet coke is my poison. I have noticed the same thing although I haven't quite got rid of my diet pop yet. I am down to on fountain pop which I fill all the way to the top with ice before filling, and I have to have drank at least 4 cups of water before I can touch it. Most days I don't even drink all of it any more. I'm getting there!!

When faced with "free" food
You know the food... the brownies/cookies/bagels that appear in the breakroom at work with a note "help yourself"; or a client brings by a box of doughnuts to show their "appreciation"; or even the free samples at Costco...
Remember this:
Just because it's free, doesn't mean it's for me!
After all, just because it didn't cost you any money, doesn't mean it's going to not have a price attached to it!
