I have found the best way for me to stay on track is to keep myself busy. When I am not focused on anything specific I turn to food and mindless eating, so keeping my mind and hands focused on a task is my solution.

Finding ways to keep busy to keep from snacking. I keep myself busy by reading to my kids, cleaning, finding a movie. While doing any of those I keep myself from going into the kitchen. I find if I keep busy I keep boredom at bay and less apt to snack then.
