I added up the calories, nutrients, etc. for my own recipes and entered them in my nutrition tracker. What a shock! Although I add no extra salt, my own soups had more sodium than Campbell's--because I use bouillion and canned ingredients. Even switching to the low sodium broths didn't help all that much. I read a SparkPeople Article that suggested avoiding canned vegetables and beans and using frozen vegetables and dried beans instead. What a difference it made in the sodium count.
Of course the flavor was much different, too, but now I am getting used to and enjoying soups, chili, etc. that taste much less salty. Give your taste buds a few weeks of lower-sodium eating to adjust to the milder flavors, before you grab the salt shaker.

Many people are not aware that simply cutting your salt intake can cause you to lessen your sugar cravings.Canned vegetables have sodium, bottled salad dressings have high sodium content.Make your own vinegar and oil dressing. Cereal contains as much as 1,000 mg of sodium a serving. Keep in mind that even a mild dehydration will cause your body to crave for both salt and sugar. Drink lots of water.
Staying on track was always easier when I turned to soup ( just watch the sodium if you are using canned) ESP good in winter , it can be a hearty lunch or stand in for supper when paired with salad or healthy sandwich /fruitbowl dessert!
Years ago I went to WW (Before the points PLUS) and they just basically had you make your own soup from veggies you like, low sodium LITE chicken broth and some canned tomato and spices ( DELISH!) You could make a lge pot for a few days or freeze some.
If you're not inspired, there are lots of smart, healthy choices nowadays and the beaity is that they are always there in a pinch .. an EZ " go to " food with chicken or turkey on LITE WW bread ( No mayo!) . ( Just skip crackers or white bread and you'll be fine!)
I have been sticking to foods that are preportioned, such as instant high fiber oatmeal, fruit, lean cuisines, canned or frozen veggies, canned soups that are low sodium, 100 calorie bags of popcorn, there are endless possibilities, but I do try to watch the sodium content as much as possible!
I have lost 7 pounds in two weeks!
