Calculating Calories To Lose Weight

To calculate how many calories to eat daily in order to lose 2-3 pounds a week use the following equation: Multiply your weight (in pounds) by 12 and subtract 1,000. (Note: If you calculate a number thatís less than 1,200 calories, follow the 1,200-calorie plan. Eating less than that, itís hard to meet your daily nutrition requirements.) Recalculate as you lose.

That puts me at 1964. I have been at 1700 the most for about a month now. I've lost 1.5 - 2 pounds per week. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm exercising 5 days a week either at karate or cardio / strength work. Any suggestions?

    I am right at 1200, but if I burn 200 calories a day in cardio . . . ?

Awesome...but my nutritionist put me on about 775 cals less than what that says and I lost 20lbs the first I am good.

This does not take into account any calories burned through exercise. If you are working out a lot you need to add those calories into your needed calories before subtracting the 1000 calories. This way of calculating leaves me with 945 calories but I burn nearly 1000 calories a day 6 days a week by working out 3 hours each of those days. So I actually need to eat 1945 calories to lose 2-3 lbs a week. I would rather not be limited to 945 calories so by exercising I can eat a lot more and still lose weight.

That puts me at 920 calories. . .
