I've used my dishwasher twice in 10 years. It came with our home. The previous owner kept records of what he spent on electricity. We spend less than half. Takes time, but I listen to NPR or music and it is relaxing. I also keep all appliances not in use unplugged until needed. This saves

I turn off the satellite boxes when no one is watching T.V. Also, unplug small appliances over night. I unplug my charger once my cell phone is charged. Keep lights to a minimum. Our electric bill has done a nose dive!!!
I hand wash plastic containers and air dry them in a dish drainer. They dry quickly. By not having them in the dishwasher, the dishes, pots, pans and flatware get completely dry instead of the water clinging to the plastic and therefore keeping tops of glasses and cups from drying. (I suppose I could wash the plastic in the dishwasher and take them out to air dry when the wash cycle is done, but then I'd have to pay attention to where the washer is in its cycle.)
