Secrets of Success

Pay The Bills The Day They Arrive

As soon as I open a bill...I go right to the computer and pay it. Even if there's not a bunch of money in checking, I still pay it. I pay my bills online and can decide which day I want the payment to actually be deducted from my checking. If I let the bills pile up and try and pay them all at once it's overwhelming and I feel out of control. I am also less likely to overspend if it "looks" like I have "extra" money. I also check my balance everyday so i know exactly where I stand.

  • I always pay the bills the day they arrive. I also have taken to setting up a few select bills to be paid automatically based on their due dates.

This is especially helpful for credit card debt. I pay the same amount each month (alway a little over what the minimum balance is) even if the minimum balance goes down. If I don't have to think about it, I will be paying more automatically on the cards than if I were "choosing" what to pay based on the bank account balance.

This method is helpful because I know what days which bills are paid on monthly and if the money isn't in the account, I can't spend it! - by MANDYG2898
