Cottage cheese is low in fat and carbs & very high in protein. Cottage Cheese with fruit, Cottage Cheese on a bed of lettuce, Cottage Cheese in salad with flaxseeds, cottage cheese with chopped oinion and parsley flakes, cottage cheese w/matchstick carrots It's a great diet food. Lots of Calcium and Protein just chose the low fat version.
I eat lower carb to control Type 2 diabetes (successfully!). My breakfast is frequently 2 bran wafers with cheese. I discovered that Neufchatel cheese is very similar to cream cheese but lower calories and fat. For a 2 Tablespoon serving, Neufchatel Cheese: 80 cal, 1 carb, 6 Fat, 2 Protein. Cream Cheese: 101 Cal, 1 carb, 10 Fat, 2 Protein
The downside is that neufchatel can be difficult to find. My local Giant carries their own generic brand next to the cream cheese.
