With a wide-spread winter storm (affecting 30 states), many of us will be shoveling snow to get cars out of garages, driveways, etc. Remember this is a HIGH INTENSITY form of exercise & it can be CRITICALLY Important that you warm up muscles before going out with your shovel. If possible, shovel snow only if you have someone who can be with you in an emergency Don't push too much snow at a time; take frequent breaks; stay hydrated & dress in layers Above all, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! Almost everyone
will be tired before the time regularly spent exercising If you find it difficult to breath, break into a Sudden sweat, have pain in your arms, chest or back, STOP IMMEDIATELY! You could be in a health crisis. If the pain continues, call 911. I had a Heart Attack at age 33! It was NOT FUN!

Shoveling show is the most timely example since I'm in the Midwest, but other house chores can also be used for great exercise - washing your car, mowing your lawn, sweeping, heavy housecleaning and more. I often do things the old-fashioned way, just to burn more calories. That's why TODAY, for the 4th time this year, I shoveled snow with a snow shovel while several of my neighbors were using snow blowers.
Ok...sometimes when your shoveling away...the snow can stick to your shovel...well...I have found a little pam sprayed on the snow shovel....does help with the snow sticking to it! I highly recommend it!
My favorite everyday workout, especially this time of year, is shoveling snow. Ok, some of think I'm shoveling something else by saying this but I assure you I'm not. I make fun patterns as I shovel and incorporate some pilates moves. Not only am I clearing my walkways, driveway and car but I'm clearing my head and heart.
